Hot on the heels of Brightside's successful launch back in Exeter in February 2023, Brightside Saltash will open on the A38 at Trerulefoot, Cornwall – and here are some pictures to show you what to expect when you visit.
The former Route 38 site has been transformed during the past four months. Loungers says that once inside the new building, visitors will be transported back in time by a look and feel that is nostalgic and familiar, yet fun and modern, evoking memories and excitement of childhood road trips.
Replicating the interiors of its sister site on the A38 south of Exeter, the almost-cinematic interior scheme takes inspiration from the 1970s and ’80s, caravan interiors, classic road trip movies and memories of roadside dining and holidays from a bygone era. The walls are panelled in rich cherry wood veneer inset with British landscape artwork, stone, and a vintage countryside view mural, while the floor is covered in wooden parquet.
The dining area is furnished with creamy Formica topped tables with mid-century inspired dining chairs and booths upholstered with orange and brown striped train seat fabric. The nostalgia continues in the bathrooms complete with avocado bathroom fittings and terrazzo flooring and outside with crazy paving flooring, caravan awnings to the windows, concrete leaf block screen walls and raised planters.
Loungers founder and chairman Alex Reilley says: "Brightside Saltash has been a labour of love and we can't wait to finally welcome customers through the doors.
"Summer holidays are just around the corner so we hope locals and travellers on the way down to Cornwall will enjoy our reinterpretation of roadside dining.
"Awaiting them is top-notch hospitality and really excellent, wholesome food in warm, welcoming and stylish surroundings where they can relax and recharge."
Brightside's menu features "elevated comfort food with a twist", which includes breakfasts with potato croquettes, burgers, sourdough pizzas with homemade San Marzano tomato sauce and an updated version of ham, egg and chips, featuring treacle-cured pork belly, waffle fries and a charred pineapple and chilli salsa.
Sweets include sundaes, a Brightside Brownie with soft serve ice cream and chocolate sauce, and slices of cake for the road. Brightside promises to be family-friendly with lots on offer for children and also plenty of vegan and gluten-free options.
Reilley adds: "Since launching Brightside Exeter back in February, we’ve been incredibly well-received, confirming our thoughts that roadside dining needed reinvigorating and that travelling shouldn't just be about the final destination, but the journey itself.
"Our expertise in high-quality, great value all-day dining through our other brands means that we’re confident Brightside will bring proper hospitality back to roadside dining."
Brightside claims to share the same core values as Loungers’ Lounge and Cosy Club brands such as focusing on all-day dining, offering value for money and offering great service.
Loungers believes there is scope to create a national brand and has ambitious plans to roll out Brightside across the UK. The next Brightside venue will be in Honiton, Devon, in July 2023.
