SALINE, MI -- A Saline facility making injection molding for plastic automotive parts and components is set to close and lay off all its employees at the end of 2024.

Toronto-based ABC Group Sales & Engineering notified the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity in late June that it is closing its plant at 1294 Beach Court on or around Dec. 31.

The permanent closure will eliminate the facility’s 156 positions.

None of the affected employees will have bumping rights in connection with the closure and there is no union representation involved, according to the company’s notice given in accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

The plant’s product line, however, is transferring to the company’s manufacturing facility in Wyoming, Michigan, and the affected employees can apply for work there or at any other ABC Technologies facility, ABC Technologies Global Communications Manager Tom Hajkus wrote in an email.

The decision to close the facility is part of a “strategic realignment to optimize operations and ensure long-term sustainability in a rapidly evolving market,” Hajkus wrote.

“Affected employees will be supported throughout this transition and will receive comprehensive severance packages, career counseling and assistance in finding new job opportunities,” Hajkus wrote.

The decision to close this plant comes after ABC Technologies acquired Windsor Mold Group for $165 million in 2022. The company shared in April it was also closing its Emrick Plastics facility in Windsor, impacting around 100 jobs. Hajkus said this was a similar re-structuring decision and prompt notifications were given ahead of time.

“We deeply appreciate the hard work and dedication of our employees at ABC Saline,” Hajkus wrote. “The closure process is expected to be completed by the end of 2024 and in the meantime, ABC will continue to operate its other facilities to meet the needs of its valued customers and partners.”
